Live Collages
In my brief 2017 series, Live Collages, I photograph models who hold lifesize paper collage elements near their faces. Similar to ones seen at country fairs where lifesize paintings are set up with holes for people to stick their head into - both are set up to be read as gag photos that force surreal juxtapositions. The visual play between the illusion of a flat photo and the other a real person, creates tension and humor. Using oblique reframing, the women in my photos play with my collages to create new visual combinations that express ideas about age, race, beauty, permission, and the boundaries of power between the sexes.
