Art Works: Magazine Pages
Magazine Pages is an ongoing series that explores how our brains are wired to read representational images of the human figure. I select pages from magazines for the model to hold and then record the constructed image. Sometimes the model holds a roughly constructed paper collage or I reprint the pages at a a larger scale so the human face can fit into it. The tension between the two images, a photo within a photo, one a flat photo and the other a real person, causes contradiction and tension. Using humor and oblique reframing of images, I am playing with our cognitive processes by blurring the boundaries between two things within one image.
